Food Poisoning.
Two outbreaks occurred during the year, involving 40 persons but no deaths.
In one (34 persons) the agent was identified as Clostridium welchii. The food suspected
was individual steak puddings but none was available for bacteriological examination.
In the second case (6 persons) neither the food nor the agent was positively identified.
Clean Food Campaign.
This work has been proceeding steadily during the year, mainly by the Council's
Inspectors who regularly visited canteens and restaurants.
Since the start of the campaign 85 lectures have been given at which there have been
2,440 attendances.
Unsound Food Condemned and Destroyed.
During the year 1951, the undermentioned unsound or diseased food was surrendered
by the owners and dealt with by the Food Inspectors. Wherever possible the food was used for
cattle feeding.
