During the past two years, in the winter and summer months, samples of water have
been taken from these wells for chemical and bacteriological examination and also of water
pumped from wells situated outside the borough to various points on the railway system centred
on Euston Station, and appropriate action has been taken when recommended by the Public
Analyst.
Samples of water have also been taken regularly from the Council's swimming baths
at Plender Street and Prince of Wales Road, and following the receipt of unsatisfactory reports
from the Public Analyst in respect of the former, the Medical Officer of Health recommended
that the use of this swimming bath should be discontinued. The Plender Street swimming
baths are not now in use.
Following the recent outbreak of infantile paralysis the Council directed that the water
at the Prince of Wales Road baths should be examined at monthly intervals. The Public
Analyst's reports indicated that the water was satisfactory.
