and it is understood that further extensions of their scheme are contemplated so soon as this
is completed. The North St. Pancras House Improvement Society are building a block of
10 flats in Wilkin Street and Litcham Street, and it is proposed to develop this scheme and
eventually provide a large block of working-class dwellings in this locality.
An appreciable quantity of working class flats were provided in St. Pancras during
the pre-war period by private enterprise, and recently there has been evidence that private
owners are contemplating building similar flats, although not extensively at the moment.
Section V. INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
(a) MILK SUPPLY.
Cowsheds.— There are now no licensed cowsheds in the Borough.
Dairies and Milkshops.— The Milk and Dairies Order, 1926, requires the Sanitary Authority
to register all persons in their district carrying on the trade of cowkeeper or dairyman, and
also all premises which are used as dairies.
The term "dairy" does not include a shop from which milk is not supplied otherwise
than in properly closed and unopened receptacles in which it was delivered to the shop, and
therefore such premises do not require to be registered, but any person selling milk in sealed
bottles or other receptacles must be registered as & purveyor of milk.
Section 2 of the Milk and Dairies (Amendment) Act, 1922, gives the Local Authority
power to refuse registration or to remove from the register any retail purveyor of milk, if they
are satisfied that the public health is likely to be endangered by any act or default of such person.
Thirty-two applications for registration under the Milk and Dairies Order, 1926, were
received and granted during the year (31 retail and 1 wholesale).
Fourteen applications in respect of itinerant vendors were also received and granted.
