Taking a general view of all the Notifiable Diseases, St. Pancras has maintained a high
and satisfactory standard. As compared with 1930 there has been a marked drop in the
incidence of Scarlet Fever, Measles and Diphtheria. Unfortunately the case Mortality of
Diphtheria is steadily rising. The department is paying particular attention to this. Cerebrospinal
Fever and Enteric Fever showed both higher incidence and greater mortality. There
was also a sharp rise in the number of cases of Acute Influenzal Pneumonia during an epidemic
which spread over England.
The following table gives the number of cases notified, the number of deaths which
occurred, and the number of patients admitted to hospital during 1931. The notifications
have not been corrected for any subsequent revision of diagnosis:—
