It will be seen that the proportion of deaths due to preventable diseases is much lower
in the group of children who were not living under overcrowded conditions; in fact, these
diseases are largely responsible for the difference in the number of deaths occurring under
bad and good housing conditions.
In the Tables on the next three pages arc shown : —
1. The causes of death of all children under 12 months of age during 1925,
classified according to age at death.
2. The causes of death of children under 12 months of age during the ten
previous years. In this Table the number of births ill each year is also given
for reference.
•3. The principal causes of death of children under 5 years of age, at various
age periods, during 1925 and the five preceding years.
