In eight instances one return case occurred in each house. Two of these, however, were
in a different family, though living in the same house.
In one instance, two return cases occurred in the same house after the return of a patient
from hospital.
All the above cases were investigated: one was found to have diphtheria germs present in
both nose and throat and was re-admitted to hospital. Another had some bacilli in the throat
only, and was isolated and medically attended at home until free from infection. In the other
cases no definite source of infection was ascertained.
TYPHOID OR ENTERIC FEVER (INCLUDING PARATYPHOID)..
Twenty cases were notified during the year to be suffering from this disease; on further
investigation six of these were found not to be suffering from Typhoid Fever. The number of
actual cases was therefore 14.
Based on bacteriological examination, 13 of these were reported to be cases of typhoid
and one of paratyphoid fever.
In six of the cases there was a history of having consumed fish or shell-fish: in two
instances there were two cases in the same house. One case, a nurse, in the course of her duties,
had been in contact with Typhoid patients. In the other cases, no source of infection could be
discovered.
Only one of the above cases proved fatal. Two other deaths from enteric were reported
of St. Pancras residents, but these occurred outside the district, and were therefore not notified
here.

The number of cases of Typhoid Fever, corrected for errors of diagnosis, which have occurred each year since 1913, are shown in the following table, which also gives the number of deaths and the death-rate per cent.
