Attention may also be drawn to the work which has been done by the staff
during the last quarter of the year in regard to milkshops. This consisted of
a careful enquiry into all such shops in the Borough, with the object of determining
what action should be taken in regard to that part of the London
County Council (General Powers) Act, 1908, which gives your Council discretionary
powers as to the registration of milksellers. These powers had not been
utilized, and the condit ions of many shops in which milk was sold made it appear
desirable that they should be exercised. The results of this work have been
presented to your Council as a separate report since the close of the year.
A special report was presented to your Public Health Committee in October
dealing with the work of the Women Inspectors and Health Visitors, and
suggesting the appointment of additional Health Visitors. This report was
considered by your Committees and is at present under the consideration of
your Council.
In conclusion I have to acknowledge my indebtedness to the staff of the
Public Health Department, who have without exception given me unstinted
assistance, which has considerably lightened the burden which would naturally
have fallen upon me in my first year of office; and to thank your Council for
the consideration they have shown me during the year.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
I. Shadhik Niqquis
Medical Officer of Health.
