CLEANSING OF VERMINOUS PERSONS.
In reference to this subject the following Report of the General Purposes
Committee of the County Council was made to the County Council on the
4th February, 1908:—
27th January, 1908.
Cleansing of verminous persons—References to committees.
1.—Part V. of the London County Council (General Powers) Act,
1907,* provides for the cleansing by the Council of verminous persons in
common lodging-houses, and of verminous children, and for arrangements
to be made with the several sanitary authorities with regard to the use,
for carrying out such cleansing, of the premises and appliances belonging
to or used by such authorities. The provisions of the Act which relate to
the cleansing of inmates of common lodging-houses should be administered
by the Public Health Committee, who exercise the powers of the Council
relating to such houses, while the Education Committee should deal with
the cleansing of verminous children. It is, however, desirable that the
arrangements with sanitary authorities should be made by the Council
through one committee, and. it has been agreed that the Public Heath
Committee shall make the necessary arrangements. We recommend—
(a) That the order of reference to the Public Health Committee be
amended by the insertion of the following after item (2) in paragraph 2—
The Committee shall exercise the powers of the Council under—
Part V. of the London County Council (General Powers) Act,
1907, with respect to verminous inmates of common lodging-houses,
* In Part VI. (Legislation) of this Annual Report Part V. of the London County Council
(General Towers) Act, 1907, is set out.
