In addition to the above, a number of sheep's livers and lungs were affected
with parasitical diseases and destroyed.
Licensed Cow-sheds.—I paid 94 visits to the licensed cow-sheds (4) and on a
few occasions I had to call the owners attention to the By-laws. At the last
meeting of the Licensing Committee of the London County Council, I attended
to support an objection to the renewal of one of the licences, raised by this
Authority on my report as to the sheds not being used for cows ; the objection
was accepted by the Committee and the license refused.
Milkshops.—I made 521 inspections of milkshops, and, with few exceptions,,
found the milk vessels generally satisfactory. During these visits I found 32
persons selling milk without being registered in accordance with the Dailies,
Cowsheds, and Milkshops Orders.
Sale of Food anil Drugs Acts.—1 obtained 340 samples of articles of food and
drugs for analysis by the Public Analyst under these Acts, of which 58 were
adulterated.
Of the samples of milk 42 were taken promiscuously at the St. Pancras
(M.R.), Kentish Town (M.R.), and King's Cross (G.N.R.) stations, and only 3
were found to be slightly adulterated.
Bacteriological Examination.—I took 10 samples of "nursery" milk for
examination, also 7 samples direct from the cow into a bottle; for results please
see Dr. Eyre's report.
During the year I have attended before the magistrates at the Police Courts
95 times in the discharge of my duties.
I am, Sir, yours obediently,
Harry R. Child
