Workshops.—The Men Inspectors had 656 (apart from bakehouses) and the
Woman Inspector 419 workshops (apart from laundries) on the Registers for
periodical inspection. During the year 854 and 217 inspections, respectively,
of these premises were made, and 345 and 16 re-inspections after notices.
Workplaces.—These include restaurant kitchens, cab and omnibus yards,
laundries and domestic workshops, and home workplaces.
Domestic Workshops and Home Workplaces.—The Woman Inspector has
316 of these on the Register, of which 382 inspections and 5 re-inspections
after notice were made. These places vary in number from year to year, and
according to the season of the year.
Laundries.—On the Register are 73 laundries at which the Woman Inspector
made 99 inspections and 8 re-inspections.
Restaurant Kitchens.—Of these the Men Inspectors had 93 and the Woman
Inspector 161 on the Registers. At the former 151 inspections and 99 reinspections
were made, and at the latter 0 inspections and 1 re-inspection.
Bakehouses.—At the commencement of the year there were 128 workshopbakehouses.
Of these and of the three factory bakehouses, and the three bakehouses
in hotels, 366 inspections and 232 re-inspections were made. This
large number of re-inspections was part of the work in connection with certifying
underground bakehouses.
Sanitary Conveniences in Factories and Workshops.—Under § 7, Drainage,
will be found a note upon the structural requirements of sanitary conveniences
in factories and workshops.
Tabular Statement. —The following is a tabular statement of the work of the
Men Inspectors, in the form desired by the Factory Department of the Home
Office:—
