Note.—This table was not commenced until the fourth quarter of the year.
DISINFECTION OF ROOMS.
Infected rooms are sprayed and fumigated in the following manner:—
(1) All openings are closed and sealed.
(2) The surfaces are sprayed with a 2 per cent, solution of formaldehyde
(made by mixing 6 ounces of 40 per cent, solution of fomalin with
one gallon of water).
(3) With the surfaces wet and the air of the room saturated with moisture,
sulphur cakes (1 lb. per 1,000 cubic feet of air space) are burnt for
fumigation. The fresh sulphurous acid gas is produced in an atmosphere
saturated with moisture and allowed to act for about four hours.
Sulphurous acid is a heavy, slowly diffusible gas fitted to act slowly
over a prolonged period. Formaldehyde is a light, rapidly diffusible
gas, best applied in solution.
