The southern boundary line of the Kentish Town Sub-District formerly ran
from the eastern to the western boundary of the Borough along Haverstock
Hill, Chalk Farm Road, and the Regent's Canal. In 1901 it was moved
northwards, and now runs along Haverstock Hill, Prince of Wales Road,
Kentish Town Road, and Leighton Road. To this boundary line the SubDistricts
of Regent's Park and Camden Town were advanced, the division
line between these two Sub-Districts being extended along the Kentish Town
Road from Hawley Crescent to Prince of Wales Road. So that the SubDistricts
of Regent's Park and Camden Town have been increased, and the
Kentish Town Sub-District decreased in area, and the past statistics of all
of these Sub-Districts are no longer individually comparable with present or
future statistics.
In 1902 the same will apply to the Sub-Districts of Tottenham Court and
Gray's Inn Lane, the division line of which will be moved westward from
Burton Crescent to Upper Woburn Place, and the only Sub-District that will
then remain comparable with its past will be that of Somers Town. It is
much to be regretted that the alteration of the areas of the two southern SubDistricts
did not take place sooner, if at all, as, except during 1901, the
Census Returns for these two Sub-Districts as printed and circulated will be
incorrect, and must be altered to correspond, respectively, with Wards 7 and
8, as shown further on in the Table headed "Registration District and SubDistricts,
with their constituent Civil Parish, Area, Houses, and Population."
The following tables give the results of the Census Enumeration of 1901,
and the comparative figures of that of 1891, so far as they are available, theearlier
enumeration having been less extensive.
