„ to other Sanitary Authorities.
,, as to names and addresses of out-workers employed
in St. Pancras but living and working in other districts (68).

statement of the number of inspections and re-inspections made during the

I am, &c.,
A. J. Safford.
Sanitary Inspector of Workshops (Women).
"OUT-WORKERS."
The subject of "out-workers" was raised by the circular letter of the Vestry
of St. Mary, Battersea, dated 4th October, 1898.
The Battersea Vestry considered that arrangements should be made by which
they should be advised of the addresses of "out-workers" residing in the Parish
who, in consequence of working in a district other than that in which the work is
given out, sometimes escape the extra sanitary supervision necessary, and desired to
know the views of the Vestry as to an interchange of information relative to outworkers,
and whether the Vestry would be willing to co-operate in the matter.
To obtain a correct view of the position it is necessary to refer to the Order of
the Secretary of State as to out-workers, in the preamble to which Order the
sections of the Factory and Workshop Acts bearing upon out-workers are also
get out.
* These are included in the tabular statement at the commencement of the Section.
