VI.—LEGISLATION.
During 1893, three Acts of Sanitary importance were passed. The Rivers
Pollution Prevention Act, 1893 (56 8f 57 Vict., Chap. 31), provides that where
any sewage matter falls or flows, or is carried into any stream, after passing
through or along a channel which is vested in a sanitary authority, the
sanitary authority shall for the purposes of sec. 3 of the Rivers Pollution Prevention
Act of 1876, be deemed to knowingly permit the sewage matter so to
fall, flow, or to be carried. The Public Health (London) Act, 1891, Amendment
Act, 1893 (56 Sf 57. Vict., Chap. 47), empowers Vestries and District
Boards to incur expenses in acquiring land, wharves, destructors, plant, and
equipment for the collection, removal and disposal of refuse. The Isolation
Hospitals Act, 1893 (56 & 57 Vic., Chap. 68), empowers Countv Councils to
make enquiry into the provision of hospitals for infectious diseases and to
establish hospital districts and boards.
An 1893 Amending Act of the Shop Hours Act, 1892, also became part of
the law of the land.
