as stated in the table below, and for the purpose of comparison previous census
populations are included, and a diagram of the population census of the SubDistricts
appended.

There were at the time of this last census a reduced number of inmates in
the Workhouse (Camden Town Sub-District) the houses in the Polygon (Somers
Town Sub-District) were unoccupied preparatory to demolition, and many houses
on a large area on the north side of Cromer Street (Gray's Inn Lane Sub-District)
were demolished, it is therefore justifiable to estimate the population of St. Pancras
as stationary. There is no apparent reason why the population of Regent's Park
Sub-District should have shrunken so markedly, but in Tottenham Court and
Gray's Inn Sub-Districts many dwelling houses have been converted into workshops
and stores. The number of persons in the Sub-Districts taken singly has
therefore varied considerably although the population of the whole Parish has
remained approximately stationary.
The estimated population for 1890 of the Parish and Sub-Districts has been
calculated from the Census figures of 1891. The inmates of Public Institutions
have been first deducted and then the number of these added to the inmates of the
Extra-Parochial Poor Law Institutions have been redistributed to the Sub-Districts
in proportion to populations. This last addition is necessary because the deaths
in these Extra Parochial Poor-Law Institutions are included in the St. Pancras
mortality. The result of the estimation is stated in the following table and the
figures of the second column are those adopted.
