Two deaths from diarrhoea and 223 from " all causes " could
not be referred to the districts to which they belong, and are
therefore omitted from consideration. (Vide Note, page 5.)
PUERPERAL FEVER.
There were 14 deaths during 1884 in St. Pancras from
this disease, or the same number as in the preceding year.
The proportion in St. Pancras per 1000 deaths from "all
causes" was 2.9, and in Londou 3.9 or 1.0 more than in
St. Pancras.

VIOLENT DEATHS.
During 1884, the deaths from violence numbered 235, or, if
corrected, 143, being 19 less than in 1883. Of these deaths,
111 occurred from accident or negligence, 10 from homicide, and
22 from suicide, or 4 less than during the previous year.
The number of infants suffocated was 38 or 4 less than in
1883. Fractures and contusions caused 44 deaths, and burns
and scalds 6 deaths. There were 478 inquests held in
St. Pancras during the year, being 10 more than in the preceding
twelve months.
UNCERTIFIED DEATHS.
The number of uncertified deaths in 1884 was 9, the same as
in 1883 ; the deaths occurred in the Camden Town and Kentish
Town sub-registration districts, and were in the proportion of
1-8 per 1000 of deaths from "all causes." In London uncertified
deaths were in the proportion of l.26 per 1000 total deaths,
which is 0.4 in excess of the proportion in the previous year.
