St. Pancras, Middleser.
TWENTY-NINTH ANNUAL REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH,
Being the Report for the Year 1884.
TO THE VESTRY OF ST. PANCRAS.
Gentlemen,
I must apologise for the late appearance of this report,
which should have been earlier in your hands. The delay has
been due to circumstances which caused interruption to my work
while in your service in the earlier part of the year, and to the
claims made by other duties which have devolved upon me since
I resigned the appointment of Medical Officer of Health to
St. Pancras.
I have estimated the population of St. Pancras to the middle
of the year 1884 to be 240,000. This estimate is based somewhat
upon the fact that in the preceding decade the population
of the parish had increased annually at the rate of 0.66 per cent.
If this increase had continued since 1881 at the same rate, we
should now be dealing with a population of over 241,000 in the
middle of the year. But when consideration is had for the
changes which have taken place in some districts since 1881,
and for the fact that during the present decade the increase of
population must necessarily be less than in the previous decade,
owing to the less rapid building of new houses, I believe that
the estimate I have given is accurate.

In more detail I have estimated the population of the various sub-registration districts to be as follows:—
