5.—For authorising a Local Authority to make regulations
for the purposes aforesaid, or any of them, subject
to such conditions, if any, as the Privy Council
prescribe.
The Local Authority in the Metropolis for the purposes of
this Act is the Metropolitan Board of Works.
BAKE-HOUSES.
By the passing of the Factory and Workshops Act, 1878,
the inspection of Bake-houses has passed out of the hands of
the Vestry into those of Factory Inspectors.
The Vestry will not have forgotten the successful efforts
of my predecessor to improve the condition of Bake-houses,
and will, therefore, regret the more that the supervision of
these places will no longer be exercised by their Officers.
By the passing of the Canal Boats Act it has become the
the duty of the Vestry to cause the inspection of Canal Boats
used as dwellings, the removal of infectious cases from these
boats to hospital and the disinfection of the boats.
Appended are the usual tables reccommended by the Society
of Medical Officers of Health.
A table shewing the work carried out by the Sanitary Department
is also added.
I have much pleasure in acknowledging the very valuable
aid afforded to the Sanitary Department during the past year
by the Medical and Relieving Officers of the different districts,
the Officers of Public Institutions, and many private practitioners
in this Parish. The early information thus given to
me of the locality of infectious cases has enabled steps to be
taken which have prevented the extension of disease from
these centres.
I have the honour to be,
Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
SHIRLEY F. MURPHY,
Medical Officer of Health.
