THIRD ANNUAL REPORT
OF THE
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH.
TO THE VESTRY OF ST. PANCRAS.
Gentlemen,
By the 132nd. section of the Metropolis Local Management Act,
under which your Medical Officer of Health is appointed, it is prescribed that
this officer shall " report periodically upon the sanitary condition of the parish,
ascertain the existence of diseases, more especially epidemics increasing the rate
of mortality, point out the existence of any nuisance or other local causes which
are likely to originate and maintain such diseases, take cognizance of the fact
of the existence of any contagious or epidemic diseases, and point out the most
efficacious mode of checking or preventing the spread of such diseases."
The periods chosen for these Reports, have been, in the first place, monthly,
at which periods isolated facts relating to the sickness, mortality, and sanitary
requirements of the District are brought before you; and in the second place,
annual, so that these facts may be brought together, classified, analysed, and
viewed in relation to former years, and made use of to suggest hints for the
guidance of future conduct.
The time is now come that I should present my Third Annual Report.

Officer of Health, a complete account of all the deaths which have occurred in

District Registrars. Without this information, which it would cost the Parish
about £50 to obtain directly from the Local Registrars, it would be impossible to
