biochemical tests of placental function enable an accurate prediction
to be made of babies in danger of mental impairment due
to continuing intra-uterine malnutrition. The purpose of the longterm
survey is to see whether this is true.
Childhood malignancies
This survey, started in 1961 by the Department of Social Medicine
at Oxford University after publication of work on the cause
of leukaemia, continued during the year.
