Imitation Cream
One sample was examined for the presence of pathogenic organisms,
and was reported satisfactory.
Examination of Water from Artesian Wells
Four samples were submitted for examination, and were reported
satisfactory.
Examination of Water from Swimming Baths
Twelve samples were submitted for examination, and all were
reported satisfactory.
Others
The six miscellaneous samples proved to be free of pathogenic
organisms.
Analysis of Food and Drugs
During the year 1,000 samples of food and drugs were procured
for analysis: 276 samples of milk, 668 other foodstuffs and 56 drugs.
Of these, 223 were submitted as formal samples, while 777 were
purchased informally. One or -44 per cent, of the formal and 43 or
5-53 per cent, of the informal samples were found to be adulterated
or not up to standard. The total adulterations reported were 44 or
4-4 per cent, of the samples submitted.
The 44 samples found to be adulterated were:
Sixteen samples of chocolate liqueurs, four samples of bread, three
samples of pork chipolatas, two samples each of creamery butter,
pork sausages, margarine and glauber's salt and one sample each of
non-brewed condiment, corned beef, Australian apples, shredded
beef suet, salted peanuts, chocolate cream bun, lamb kidneys, milk
bottle, orange juice, bread roll, cream cake, fruit cake and glace
cherries.
