TUBERCULOSIS.
Notification. The number of new cases of tuberculosis
which came to the notice of the Department during 1940 was
522 as compared with 535 in 1939 and 621 in 1938. The sources
of information regarding the new cases in 1940 were as follows :—

Notifications from H.M. Forces 19
Unnotified at death 23
Transfers from other Sanitary
Authorities 133
Total 522
Deaths. The number of deaths certified as due to diseases
of a Tuberculous nature was 242. This compares with 221 in
1939, 229 in 1938, 225 in 1937 and 236 in 1936.
Particulars of the new cases of Tuberculosis and of the deaths
from the disease during the year classified by sexes and in age
groups are given in Table VI.
