SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE
BOROUGH.
The Sanitary inspection of the Borough is being carried
out in accordance with the arrangements mentioned in last
year's Annual Report.
Table XXX. gives a summary of the sanitary operations
carried out in the Borough during the year.
During the year the number of drains which were tested
was 1,796, and of these 646 were found to be in a defective
condition. The drains of 64 houses were re-constructed.
Damp conditions have been remedied in 906 premises,
and in 172 of these damp courses were inserted.
15 privies and earth closets are known to be in existence
in the Borough, and all of these are in connection with tennis
grounds. One conversion to water carriage system was carried
out during the year.
It will be seen from this Table that 176 cases of overcrowding
were abated. In addition to these many further
instances of overcrowding were brought to the notice of the
Department, but owing to the shortage of housing accommodation
it was not possible to remedy the conditions found.
44 of the above cases of overcrowding which were abated
during the year were accommodated in Wandsworth Borough
Council houses, and 25 in London County Council houses.
