SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE
BOROUGH.
The Sanitary inspection of the Borough is being carried out
in accordance with the arrangements mentioned in last year's
Annual Report.
Table XXXI. gives a summary of the sanitary operations
carried out in the Borough during the year.
During the year the number of drains which were tested
was 1,620, and of these 696 were found to be in a defective condition.
The drains of 80 houses were re-constructed.
Damp conditions have been remedied in 885 premises, and
in 101 of these damp courses were inserted.
20 privies and earth closets are known to be in existence
in the Borough, and all of these are in connection with tennis
grounds. No conversions to water carriage system were carried
our during the year.
It will be seen from this Table that 63 cases of overcrowding
were abated. In addition to these many further instances of
overcrowding were brought to the notice of the Department,
but owing to the shortage of housing accommodation it was not
possible to remedy the conditions found.
28 of the above cases of overcrowding which were abated
during the year were accommodated in Wandsworth Borough
Council houses, and 13 in London County Council houses.
