Milk (Special Designation) Order, 1922 and 1923.
During the year under review the above Order came into
operation.
The Order requires that all persons producing or selling milk
by special designation shall be licensed.
Licences were granted to 20 milk purveyors to sell milk as
“Certified” milk. This milk is produced on farms certified and
licensed by the Ministry of Health, bottled on the farm in hermetically
sealed bottles and despatched to the milk purveyor, who
delivers the milk in the original bottles intact to the consumer.
Two licences were granted for the sale of “Grade A (Tuberculin
Tested)” milk. This milk is also produced on farms which are
certified and licensed by the Ministry of Health similar to Certified
milk, and is produced from herds proved to be free from Tuberculosis.
In six cases licences were granted for the sale of “Pasteurised”
milk. Special plant will have to be installed before these licences
are renewed.
All licences expire in December, and are issued for one year.
20 samples of Certified milk; one of Grade A (Tuberculin
Tested) ; and six of Pasteurised milk were procured for bacteriological
purposes. Six samples of Certified milk were reported
against, whilst the samples of Grade A (Tuberculin Tested) and
Pasteurised milk conformed to the required standards.
