52 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Clapham is served by the South London District Nursing
Association; Putney, Roehampton and parts of Wandsworth by
nurses appointed by the Parochial Nursing Associations; Tooting,
Balham, most of Streatham and the remainder of Wandsworth by
the Ranyard Nurses; and the northern district of Streatham by the
Brixton Nursing Association.
Maternity and Child Welfare Centres.
The eight Infant Welfare Centres established in previous
years have continued to do excellent work throughout the year,
and a new Centre has been opened in Putney Park.
Each Centre has a Medical Officer, who attends at each infant
or ante-natal clinic, together with a trained Superintendent who
visits the homes of children and expectant mothers in addition to
her duties at the clinics. The voluntary workers at all the Centres
continue to render valuable assistance at the sessions and carry
out all the work connected with the keeping of records, and the
purchase and sale of food, drugs, and clothing. They do no visiting.
The new Centre in Putney Park is a branch of the Putney Centre
in Felsham Road, and it was started in order to overcome to some
extent the overcrowding at the Putney centre, and also to serve the
district of Roehampton, more especially the new population on
the London County Council Housing Estate. This branch Centre
is held in the Church Hall of St. Margaret's, Putney Park Lane,
and a weekly infant clinic is held there on Fridays at 2 p.m. The
first session was held on the 9th November, and eight sessions were
held up to the end of the year, the number of new cases being 56.
Ante-natal cases from this part of Putney continue to attend the
Putney Centre.
The following is a list of the Welfare Centres in the Borough,
together with the hours at which the clinics are held:—
