DISINFECTION.
The total number of rooms disinfected after the occurrence of
cases of infectious disease was 4,036 (656 in Clapham, 278 in Putney,
551 in Streatham, 518 in Tooting, and 1,341 in Wandsworth).
Four public and four private elementary schools were also disinfected
on account of various infectious diseases.
The disinfecting station, which was erected in 1904, has been
working satisfactorily since then, but owing to the supply of steam
from the Council's Destructor being no longer available for the
process of disinfection it has been decided to instal a new boiler
The present boiler, which was in use at the Council's yard in Bell
Lane, dates from 1898, and owing to the wearing of some of the
boiler plates the Insurance Company have called the Council's
attention to its condition. This boiler will be used in future only
in emergency.
The laundry at the disinfecting station has also been in use
since 1904 and a considerable portion of the laundry work from the
Council's Maternity Home is done there.
