28 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
As will be seen from Table XX, 1,613 cases were reported
from this source, but the number reported is necessarily much
under the number of cases that occurred, as there was no report
from the numerous private schools in the Borough, and even from
the elementary schools there were no reports during the summer
vacation. Cases under five years of age are not reported unless
the children are in attendance at school, and this is only the case
between four and five years.
In all, 1,842 cases were reported, 25 under one year, 472 from
one and under five years, 1,340 from five and under 15 years, and
five over 15 years.
365 cases occurred in Clapham, 136 in Putney, 375 in Streatham,
237 in Tooting, and 729 in Wandsworth.
Twenty-five of the cases were removed to the Metropolitan
Asylums Board's hospitals on account of insufficient accommodation
at home.
Except in Wandsworth, there was no epidemic prevalence of
this disease during the year, and even in that sub-district the total
number of cases was not great.
Thirty-seven cases of German measles were also reported (10 in
Clapham, one in Putney, 19 in Streatham, four in Tooting, and
three in Wandsworth).
During the year 1,380 visits were made in cases of these diseases
(268 in Clapham, 97 in Putney, 331 in Streatham, 193 in Tooting,
and 491 in Wandsworth).
The total number of premises disinfected was 1,001 (179 in
Clapham, 89 in Putney, 199 in Streatham, 164 in Tooting, and
370 in Wandsworth).
Table XX shows the number of cases of infectious diseases
notified by teachers of the elementary schools in the Borough.
