Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The birth-rate was 21.03 per 1,000, compared with 16.40
for 1919, and 19.08 the decennial average. There was a considerable
increase in the number of births during the year, Compared
with the decennial average, and especially since 1915.
Table III. shows the birth-rate in the Borough, in the five
sub-districts, in London, and in England and Wales, for the
year, as well as the rates for the previous 10 years, compared
with the decennial average.

111 births occurred in the Workhouse, 51 of which belonged
to the Borough.
401 illegitimate births took place in the Borough, 33 in
Clapham, 21 in Putney, 215 in Streatham, 27 in Tooting, and
105 in Wandsworth.
