Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
borough which contained above the maximum permissible per
centage of Boric Acid namely, 0.5.
The percentage of adulteration for all samples submitted during
1917 amounts to 8.3; for those submitted formally 12.5; and for
informal samples 5.5; thus showing that the efficient inspection is
having the desired effect upon the food supply of the Borough.
In two cases, one submitted as Margarine, and the other as Coffee
Mixture, analysis proved that the inspector had, in fact, been
supplied with genuine Butter and Coffee respectively. Both of
the above occurred in "informal" samples.
I now append statements showing the nature of the samples
submitted and the amount of adulteration; and whilst doing so,
would like to congratulate the Borough on the fact that each and
every sample of milk submitted—in all 614—was free form any
trace of preservative.
The usual table showing the nature and extent of the adulteration
has been omitted, as there is nothing exceptional to which to
draw attention.
