Infantile Mortality.
The following Table shows the number of deaths, the percentage
to total deaths, the rate per 1,000 births for the year and
for the three previous years for each sub-district and for the whole
Borough.

The Infantile Mortality for the year shows an increase compared
with 1916, but is lower than 1915. The increase was general
in all the sub-districts.
INFECTIVE DISEASES.
The total number of deaths from these diseases was 817, 131
in Clapham, 47 in Putney, 211 in Streatham, 116 in Tooting, and
312 in Wandsworth.
From all infective diseases the death-rate was 271 per 1,000
(2.31 in Clapham, 1.71 in Putney, 2.27 in Streatham, 3.33 in Tooting,
and 3.49 in Wandsworth).
The rate from the principal infective diseases, viz.:—Small-pox,
Measles, Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough, Diphtheria, Enteric
Fever, and Diarrhoea, was .94 per 1,000, (.83 in Clapham, .21 in
Pctnev, .4g in Streatham 1.58 in Tooting and 1.44 in Wandsworth).
