The total number of deaths from these diseases was i,ooi, 169'
in Clapham, 83 in Putney, 236 in Streatham, 144 in Tooting, and
369 in Wandsworth, an increase of 177 compared with 1914, and
of 47 compared with the corrected decennial average.
Compared with 1914 there has been an increase in the number
of deaths from Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria, Tuberculous diseases,
Enteric Fever, Measles, Influenza, Whooping Cough, and other
infective diseases, and a decrease in the number of deaths from
Puerperal Fever, Erysipelas, and Diarrhoea.
Compared with the corrected decennial average there has been
an increase in the number of deaths from Diphtheria, Erysipelas,
Measles, Influenza, Tuberculous diseases, and other infective
diseases, but a decrease in all the others.
From all infective diseases the death-rate was 3.01 per 1,000,
(2.71 in Clapham, 2.82 in Putney, 2.26 in Streatham, 374 in Tooting,
and 3-81 in Wandsworth), compared with 2.21 in 1914, and 3.23
the decennial average.
The rate from the principal infective diseases, viz.:—Small-pox,
Measles, Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough, Diphtheria, Enteric
Fever, and Diarrhoea, was 1.24 per 1,000 (1.04 in Clapham, .98 in
Putney, .73 in Streatham, 1.61 in Tooting, and 1.87 in Wandsworth),
compared with .99 in 1914, 1.04 in 1913, and 1.73 in 1912.
The rate from these diseases was higher than in 1914, chiefly
owing to the increase in the number of deaths from Measles.
In out-lying Institutions 341 deaths occurred from infective
diseases (64 belonging to Clapham, 32 to Putney, 72 to Streatham,
48 to Tooting, and 125 to Wandsworth), compared with 310 in 1914.
Of these deaths 183 occurred in Workhouse Infirmaries, 115 in
General and Special Hospitals, 33 in Public Lunatic Asylums, and
10 in the Hospitals of the Metropolitan Asylums Board. The
causes of death in these Institutions is shown in Table X.
