From this table it will be seen that the average percentage
of adulterations detected for the 10 years 1905-1914 was 10.5 per
cent. compared with 8.6 in 1915.
The following table shows the number of formal and informal
samples taken in each sub-district of the Borough, together with
the number taken per 1,000 of population, the number adulterated,
and the percentage adulterated to the formal and informal and
to the total samples taken.
It will be noted that of the formal samples 9.4 per cent. were
adulterated, compared with 11.0 per cent. in 1914, while of the
informal 77 per cent. were adulterated, compared with 9.2 per
cent. in 1914, thus showing an improvement in the quality of the
food submitted for analysis.
