Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
209 inspections were made of factories, 851 of workshops,.
77 of domestic workshops, 383 of workplaces, and 541 of outworkers'
premises, while 255 premises were visited for inquiry and
no workroom found.
There were only three cases of overcrowding discovered, compared
with four in 1914, two in 1913, and one in 1912, and these
were at once abated, and 17 were found to be in a dirty condition,
compared with 25 in 1914, 29 in 1913, and 37 in 1912.
All the factories and workshops inspected during the year had
separate water closets for the sexes, but in seven factories and one
workshop the water closets were defective.
Other nuisances were discovered in three factories, three workshops,
five workplaces, and 11 outworkers' premises, and these were
all abated.
It was only necessary to serve 38 intimation notices, and these
were all complied with at the end of the year.
14 workshops and one domestic workshop where females were
employed were reported to H.M. Inspector of Workshops and 26
were reported to this Council by H.M. Inspector.
Only six of the workshops (one in Clapham, four in Streatham,
and one in Wandsworth), reported by H.M. Inspector were unknown
to the Sanitary Inspectors. The other 20 had been previously
reported to H.M. Inspector, or were already on the Register.
