Diseases of the Brain and Nervous System.
From these diseases 377 deaths occurred, compared with 362
in 1914, 364 in 1913, and 305 in 1912.
85 of these deaths occurred in Clapham, 24 in Putney, 119 in
Streatham, 35 in Tooting, and 114 in Wandsworth.
24 of the deaths were due to Meningitis, 173 to Cerebral
Haemorrhage or Apoplexy, 28 to Convulsions, four to Softening of
the Brain, 30 to Paralysis, 26 to General Paralysis of the Insane,
eight to Locomotor Ataxy, 13 to Epilepsy, and 71 to other diseases
of the Nervous System.
The number of deaths from Cerebral Haemorrhage or Apoplexy
in each sub-district was as follows: In Clapham 42, in Putney nine,
in Streatham 60, in Tooting 16, and in Wandsworth 46, a total of
173, compared with 180 in 1914, 179 in 1913, and 154 in 1912.
39 of the deaths from Diseases of the Brain and Nervous
System were under one year, two from one and under two years,
eight from two and under five years, seven from five and under 15
years, 11 from 15 and under 25 years, 42 from 25 and under 45
years, 111 from 45 and under 65 years, and 147 over 65 years.
Of the total deaths from the above under one year, viz.—39,
25 were from Convulsions, while of the total deaths over 65 years,
viz.—147, 108 were from Cerebral Haemorrhage.
Circulatory Diseases.
From the above group of diseases, 492 deaths occurred, 191
of which, 94 males and 97 females, were due to Valvular disease
of the Heart.
95 of these deaths occurred in Clapham, 36 in Putney, 181 in
Streatham, 57 in Tooting, and 157 in Wandsworth.
