Scarlet Fever.
1,417 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year,
compared with 971 in 1913, 833 in 1912, and 869 in 1911.
195 of these were in Clapham, 140 in Putney, 332 in Streatham,
250 in Tooting, and 500 in Wandsworth.
1,215 or 85 per cent, of these cases were removed to hospital
where 11 died, and 202 or 15 per cent. were treated at home with
two deaths.
The total number of deaths was 13, of which two were in Clapham,
one in Putney, four in Streatham, one in Tooting, and five
in Wandsworth.
The death-rate per 1,000 population was .03, compared with
.03 in 1913.
The percentage of cases removed to hospital, viz.:—85, is
lower than in 1912 and 1913, but higher than in 1911 when it was
83. per cent.
The case mortality was .91 per cent., compared with 1.13 in
1913, 1.32 in 1912, and 1.15 in 1911, and is the lowest yet recorded.
The mortality among cases removed to hospital was .90 per
cent., compared with 1.18 in 1913, and among those treated at home
.99 per cent. compared with .80 in 1913. The mortality among
the home-treated cases was thus higher than among those cases
treated in hospital.
The following Table shows the rate of notified cases per 1,000
persons living for each sub-district and for the whole Borough for
the year, and the three previous years, as well as the corresponding
rates for the whole of London.
