Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
out the work of the two Inspectors on military service, while in the
clerical staff there was only one vacancy and this has been satisfactorily
filled.
Up to the end of the year four of the disinfecting staff, (A. Blake,
T. Brown, W. H. Brown, and E. Tyler), had been mobilised or
joined the forces and some difficulty was experienced in obtaining
substitutes, but eventually satisfactory arrangements were made.
As far as I am able to judge, and this opinion is corroborated
by the Deputy Medical Officer of Health, the work of the Public
Health Department of this Borough has not been permitted to
fall below the satisfactory standard which has been attained
during the time I have had the privilege of being the Medical
Officer of Health.
With regard to the other members of the staff, I am pleased
to report that they have carried out all their duties in a most
thorough and conscientious manner, and I cannot but specially
mention the Chief Clerk of the Department, Mr. A. E. Cooper,
without whose assistance and lengthy experience it would have
been more difficult to carry on the general departmental work,
and in the preparation of this Report his help has been invaluable.
I have the honour to be,
Mr. Mayor and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
P. CALDWELL SMITH.
