Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Proceedings were taken against the vendors who successfully
pleaded a warranty given with the jam.
Proceedings were then taken against the warrantor who was
the manufacturer of the jam for giving a false warranty. At the
hearing, the warrantor stated that he was unable to account for the
apple pulp found in the jam, and that at the time he gave the warranty,
he had every reason to believe that the jam was genuine.
The case was dismissed.
DRUGS.
83 samples of drugs were analysed, and 11 or 13.2 per cent.
were found to be adulterated or not up to the required standard.
The samples adulterated were grey powders and prescriptions.
Four of the vendors were proceeded against, two for selling
a mercury preparation known as grey powder which was deficient
in mercury, and two for selling medicine by prescription which had
not been properly dispensed as directed by the prescription.
The result was that the vendors of the grey powders were
ordered to pay costs, and the vendors of Medicine by prescription
were convicted and fined 2s. and 18s. costs, and 40s. and 15s. 6d.
costs, respectively.
