216 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
210 inspections were made of factories, 801 of workshops,
57 of domestic workshops, 392 of workplaces, and 369 of outworkers'
premises,' while 247 premises were visited for inquiry
and no workroom found.
There were only four cases of overcrowding discovered, compared
with two in 1913, one in 1912, and three in 1911, and these
were at once abated, and 25 were found to be in a dirty condition,
compared with 29 in 1913, 37 in 1912, and 17 in 1911.
All the factories and workshops inspected during the year had
separate water closets for the sexes, but in four factories and
five workshops the water closets were defective.
Other nuisances were discovered in one workshop, one domestic
workshop, 11 workplaces, and eight outworkers' premises, and
these were all abated.
It was only necessary to serve 47 intimation notices, and these
were all complied with at the end of the year.
24 workshops and three domestic workshops where females
were employed were reported to H.M. Inspector of Workshops and
29 were reported to this Council by H.M. Inspector.
Only five of the workshops (two in Clapham, two in Streatham,
and one in Wandsworth), reported by H.M. Inspector were unknown
to the Sanitary Inspectors. The other 24 had been previously
reported to H.M. Inspector, or were already on the Register.
