Report of the Medical Officer of Health. 203
Ice Cream Premises.
At the end of 1913 there were 346 of these on the Register.
During 1914, 15 were added and 15 removed, leaving a total of
346 on the Register, 531 inspections were made of these premises
during the year and 43 notices were served, all of which were for
cleansing.
Proceedings were instituted against one ice cream vendor for
not having his name and address on the barrow. A fine of 3s. with
2s. costs was inflicted.
Houses let in Lodgings.
At the end of 1913 there were 292 houses let in lodgings on
the Register. None were added during 1914, and none removed,
making a total of 292 on the Register at the end of 1914.
1,045 inspections of these were made during the year, and 492
notices were served, 17 for overcrowding and 475 for other conditions,
chiefly cleansing.
On the whole the By-laws have been satisfactorily complied
with, although in some instances the cleansing was not carried out
at the specified time.
Offensive Trade Refuse.
I have again to report that the arrangements which have been
made by the Council with a contractor for the removal of this refuse
have during the year, worked quite satisfactorily, and no complaints
have been received. In a certain number of cases this refuse is
removed privately, and this has also been carried out in a satisfactory
manner.
