Diseases of the Brain and Nervous System.
From these diseases 362 deaths occurred, compared with 364
in 1913, 305 in 1912, and 358 in 1911.
75 of these deaths occurred in Clapham, 21 in Putney, 130 in
Streatham, 34 in Tooting, and 102 in Wandsworth.
21 of the deaths were due to Meningitis, 180 to Cerebral
Haemorrhage or Apoplexy, 23 to Convulsions, 14 to Softening of
the Brain, 22 to Paralysis, 27 to General Paralysis of the Insane,
10 to Locomotor Ataxy, 14 to Epilepsy, and 51 to other diseases
of the Nervous System.
The number of deaths from Cerebral Haemorrhage or Apoplexy
in each sub-district was as follows: In Clapham 44, in Putney 12,
in Streatham 63, in Tooting 14, and in Wandsworth 47 a total of
180, compared with 179 in 1913, 154 in 1912, and 147 in 1911.
32 of the deaths from Diseases of the Brain and Nervous
System were under one year, six from one and under two years,
three from two and under five years, six from five and under 15
years, eight from 15 and under 25 years, 44 from 25 and under 45
years, 104 from 45 and under 65 years, and 159 over 65 years.
Of the total deaths from the above under one year, viz.—32,
21 were from Convulsions, while of the total deaths over 65 years,
viz.:—159, 116 were from Cerebral Haemorrhage.
Circulatory Diseases.
From the above group of diseases, 436 deaths occurred, 171
of which, 78 males and 93 females, were due to Valvular disease
of the Heart.
101 of these deaths occurred in Clapham. 40 in Putney, 129 in
Streatham, 33 in Tooting, and 133 in Wandsworth.
