Report of the Medical Officer of Health. 133
The total number of visits made was 2,722 in cases of
Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 509 in Clapham, 145 in Putney, 661 in
Streatham, 461 in Tooting, and 946 in Wandsworth, and 525 in
cases of other forms of Tuberculosis, 80 in Clapham, 23 in Putney,
104 in Streatham, 117 in Tooting, and 201 in Wandsworth.
In addition to these visits by the Health Visitor, 253 visits were
made by the Dispensary Nurse, these visits being made by the
instruction of the Tuberculosis Officer to cases under his care at the
Dispensary.
These numbers are extremely satisfactory when the area of
the Borough is taken into consideration.
32 of the cases under observation removed to other places
and the Medical Officers of Health of these were duly informed,
while 25 cases notified in other districts were notified to me by the
respective Medical Officers of Health.
During the year 30 sputum flasks have been supplied, and two
were returned after the death of the patient. In 13 of the cases
visited the patients already had one, but in many cases the patients
objected to their use.
Tuberculosis Dispensary.
It will be seen from the Report of the Tuberculosis Officer,
Dr. F. G. Caley, that a very large amount of work has been carried
out during the year, although the absence of the Tuberculosis Officer
on military duty and the necessary alteration of the dispensary
arrangements resulted in a slight decrease in the number of cases
dealt with.
It is satisfactory to note that arrangements have now been
made by the London County Council for the treatment in sanatoria
of non-insured persons, and since June, 1914, seven cases have been
admitted to sanatoria under the scheme up to the end of the year.
