Notification of Tuberculosis.
The total number of cases of Pulmonary Tuberculosis notified
during 1914 was 706, compared with 783 in 1913, 855 in 1912, and
514 in 1911.
O the total cases notified during the year viz:—706, 138 were
from Clapham, 46 from Putney, 170 from Streatham, 126 from
Tooting, and 231 from Wandsworth, compared with 783 in 1913, of
which 154 were from Clapham, 45 from Putney, 209 from Streatham,
89 from Tooting, and 286 from Wandsworth. There was thus a
decided decrease in all the sub-districts with the exception of
Putney and Tooting, where there was an increase.
Two of the cases were under one year of age, 12 from one and
under five years 60 from five and under 15 years, 132 from 15 and
under 25 years, 337 from 25 and under 45 years, 128 from 45 and
under 65 years, and 35 over 65 years.
In Table LX. is shown the total number of cases notified
since 1908, the number of deaths in each year since that date, the
total deaths, the number removed from the district as far as could
be ascertained, the number who were stated to have recovered, the
number in which no inquiries were made, and the total number of
cases still on the Register.
In all 3,607 cases have been notified, and of these 1,458 or 40
per cent. have died, 717 or 19.8 per cent. have removed, 97 or 2.6
per cent. are stated to have recovered, in 23 or .6 per cent. no
inquiries have been made, while 1,312 or 36.3 per cent. are still on
the Register.
It will be noted that in 1912, 1913 and 1914 inquiries have been
made in every case, although in 40 cases in 1912, 55 in 1913, and
32 in 1914 these inquiries were made at my request by the private
medical practitioner.
