Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The corrected population in Table II. is used to calculate
all the rates in this Report.
The total population of the Institutions in the Borough was
in 1911, 7,855, but as a large proportion of the inmates of the
Tooting Home and the Metropolitan Asylums Board's Hospital
belong to the Borough, a deduction of 3,202 from the uncorrected
population gives the corrected population, viz.:—326,945, compared
with 321,340 in the previous year.
Births.
During the 52 weeks ending the 2nd January, 1915, 6,684
births, 3,444 of males and 3,240 of females, were registered, compared
with 6,838 in 1913, 6,756 in 1912, and 6,699 in 1911.
The total number of births registered in this Borough was
6,590, but 149 births occurred in Institutions outside the Borough
of persons belonging to the Borough, and 55 births in Institutions
in the Borough of persons not belonging to the Borough, making a
corrected total of 6,684.
Of the 149 births which were registered outside the Borough,
61 occurred in Clapham Maternity, 30 in the General Lying-in
Hospital, 15 in Queen Charlotte's Hospital, 19 in St. Thomas's
Hospital, two in City of London Lying-in Hospital, two in St.
Bartholomew's Hospital, one in Middlesex Hospital, one in the
Bolingbroke Hospital, six in Poor Law Infirmaries, 11 in private
nursing homes, and one in other place.
In Table III. is shown the number of births, males and females,
the birth-rate, and the rate of natural increase for each sub-district,
and for the whole Borough.
