Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The percentage of children attending school in the Borough
was as follows:—in Clapham, 98 out of 204, or 48 per cent.; in
Putney, 19 out of 44, or 43 per cent.; in Streatham, 159 out of 277,
or 57 per cent.; in Tooting, 86 out of 126, or 68.2 per cent.; and
in Wandsworth, 148 out of 288, or 51.4 per cent.
The percentage of cases in the Borough in attendance at school
was lower than in 1912, while in the sub-districts the percentage
was higher in Putney and Tooting, but lower in Clapham, Streatham
and Wandsworth.
The percentage in Tooting is calculated after deduction of
the cases notified in Institutions in that sub-district.
In Clapham the schools chiefly affected were Haselrigge Road
with 20 cases, Larkhall Lane with 18 cases, and Cavendish Road
and Wirtemberg Street with 10 cases each.
In Putney, of the 19 cases, seven were in attendance at St.
Mary's School, and five at private schools.
In Streatham the schools chiefly affected were Oldridge Road
with 31 cases, Broadwater Road and Immanuel Schools with 13
cases each, Mitcham Lane with 12 cases, and Fircroft Road with
10 cases. 36 of the cases were in attendance at private schools,
these chiefly occurring in October, November and December.
In Tooting, Ensham Street with 18 cases, Franciscan Road
with 15 cases, Tooting Graveney with 14 cases, and Undine Street
with 12 cases, were the schools principally attacked during the year.
In Wandsworth, Waldron Road with 25 cases, the Earlsfield
with 17 cases, The Wandle with 16 cases, and Swaffield Road with
14 cases, were the schools chiefly affected.
10 of the 14 cases in Swaffield Road School occurred during the
month of July.
