Scarlet Fever.
971 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year,
compared with 833 in 1912, 869 in 1911, and 687 in 1910.
204 of these were in Clapham, 44 in Putney, 277 in Streatham,
158 in Tooting, and 288 in Wandsworth.
842 or 87 per cent. of these cases were removed to hospital
where 10 died, and 129 or 13 per cent. were treated at home with
one death.
The total number of deaths was 11, of which five were in
Streatham, two in Tooting, and four in Wandsworth.
The death-rate per 1,000 population was .03, compared with
.03 in 1912.
The percentage of cases removed to hospital, viz.:—87, is
the same as in 1912, but higher than in 1911 when it was 83.5 per
cent.
The case mortality was 1.13 per cent., compared with 1.32 in
1912, 1.15 in 1911, and 177 in 1910, and is the lowest yet recorded.
The mortality among cases removed to hospital was ri8 per
cent., compared with 1.3 in 1912, and among those treated at home
.80 per cent. compared with .92 in 1912. The mortality among
the home-treated cases was thus lower than among those cases
treated in hospital.
The following Table shows the rate of notified cases per 1,000
persons living for each sub-district and for the whole Borough for
the year, and the three previous years, as well as the corresponding
rates for the whole of London.
