Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Table XX. is the general mortality Table for the whole district,
corrected for internal and external Institutions, and also includes
all deaths occurring in other places in London, and in England
and Wales for the year.
Compared with 1912 there has been an increase in the number
of deaths from Measles, Diarrhoea, Enteritis, diseases of the Respiratory
and Circulatory organs, and these increases are the cause
of the death-rate for the year having been higher than in 1912.
From Pulmonary Tuberculosis there has been a slight decrease,
and this is also the case as regards Old Age and Bronchitis.
The deaths from Suicide have decreased from 43 in 1912 to
33 in 1913, but the deaths from accident have increased from 68
in 1912 to 80 in 1913.
The four Tables which follow are inserted by request of the
Local Government Board.
Table I. is arranged to show the gross births and dea lis in
the district, and the births and deaths belonging to it with the
corresponding rates.
The rates in column 7 are calculated on the gross population
and the rates in five and 13 on the nett population, i.e., the population
obtained by deducting from the estimated gross population
the average number of inmates not belonging to the district in
Public Institutions.
The population given in column two of this Table is the popula
tion after the above correction has been made.
Table II. shows the number of cases of Infectious Diseases
notified during the year at all ages and at certain age periods in
the Borough and in the separate sab-districts, and also shows the
number of caces removed to hospital from the whole Borough.
