Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
204 inspections were made of factories, 1,028 of workshops,
42 of domestic workshops, 296 of workplaces, and 272 of outworkers'
premises, while 176 premises were visited for inquiry
and no workroom found.
There were only two cases of overcrowding discovered, compared
with one in 1912, three in 1911, and one in 1910, and these
were at once abated, four workrooms were found to be insufficiently
ventilated, and 29 were found to be in a dirty condition, compared
with 37 in 1912, 17 in 1911, and 30 in 19x0.
All the factories and' workshops inspected during the year had
separate water closets for the sexes, but in four factories, three
workshops, and one workplace the water closets were defective.
Other nuisances were discovered in two factories, 13 workshops,
two domestic workshops, 12 workplaces, and four outworkers'
premises, and these were all abated.
It was only necessary to serve 55 intimation notices and two
statutory notices, and these were all complied with at the end of
the year with the exception of two in Putney, which were complied
with in the early part of 1914.
34 workshops and one domestic workshop where females were
employed were reported to H.M. Inspector of Workshops and 45
were reported to this Council by H.M. Inspector.
Only 10 of the workshops, (two in Clapham, two in Putney,
five in Streatham, and one in Tooting), reported by H.M. Inspector
were unknown to the Sanitary Inspectors. The other 35 had been
previously reported to H.M. Inspector, or were already on the
Register.
