The total number of intimation notices served was 6,305,
compared with 6,620 in 1912, 6,278 in 1911, and 8,866 in 1910, and
of statutory notices 540, compared with 707, 957, and 1,038.
The greatest number of intimation notices was served in
Streatham, Balham and Springfield Wards, and the smallest number
in Southfield and Putney Wards. The greatest number of statutory
notices was served in Balham and Springfield Wards and the
smallest number in Putney and Tooting Wards.
Only 33 of the statutory notices, three in Clapham, three in
Streatham, and 28 in Wandsworth, served in 1913, were not complied
with at the close of the year.
16 of these notices were complied with in the beginning of
the current year, with regard to eight the premises are unoccupied,
while in the case of the remaining nine notices the work is in hand.
The number of statutory notices served include By-law notices,
178 of which were served in respect of the following contraventions
of the By-laws:—Yard paving 74, repairs to water closets 11,
repairs to flushing apparatus of water closets 36, cleansing of water
closets two, covers to cisterns 10, cleansing cisterns six, cleansing
house and other contraventions of the By-laws as to houses let in
lodgings 30, absence of cover to manure receptacle two, failing to
deposit manure in a proper receptacle two, paving of stables one,
and other four.
The number of cases of overcrowding dealt with during the
year was 75, compared with 76 in 1912, 91 in 1911, and 129 in 1910.
Six of these were in Clapham, one in Putney, 15 in Streatham, five
in Tooting, and 48 in Wandsworth.
The cases of overcrowding in Clapham were in Prescott Place,
Little Manor Street, Old Town, White Square, and Newman's
Court; in Putney, in Weiss Road ; in Streatham, in Zennor Road,
Factory Square, Danbrook Road, Kettering Street, Hereward Road,
and Graveney Road ; in Tooting, in Pevensey Road and Trevelyan
Road ; in Wandsworth, in Bendon Valley, Guelph Street, Wardley
