Diarrhœa.
168 deaths, 90 of males and 78 of females, occurred from all
forms of Diarrhoea and Enteritis during the year, compared with
85 in 1912, 350 in 1911, and 88 in 1910. There has thus been an
increase of 83 in the number of deaths from these diseases compared
with the previous year, but a decrease of 53.6 compared with the
corrected decennial average.
23 of the deaths occurred in Clapham, 11 in Putney, 35 in
Streatham, 36 in Tooting, and 63 in Wandsworth.
In all the sub-districts there was an increase compared with
1912.
The death-rate was .51 per 1,000, (in Clapham .37, in Putney
.39, in Streatham .34, in Tooting .96, and in Wandsworth .66),
compared with .27 in 1912, 1.13 in 1911, and .30 in 1910.
The total number of deaths of children under two years was
154, equal to a rate of .47 per 1,000, compared with .22 in 1912, while
the death-rate for the whole of London under two years was .68
per 1,000, compared with .31.
Of the total number of deaths registered, 132 or 78 per cent.
were of infants under one year, compared with 70 per cent. in 1912,
78 per cent. in 1911, and 75 per cent. in 1910.
The following Table shows the number of deaths from Diarrhœa
and Enteritis under one year for the four quarters of 1913, and for
the five previous years.
